Is it bubbles or is it wash froth breaking up - or are they one and the same thing?

You've just made realise that you don't often see wash froth in paintings....

Like Katherine, my first thought was - is that light? Or is it bubbles? We hardly ever see froth on the Patea river because the hydro dam about an hour up changes the conditions of the river. Pity really.
